Reading Backwards
Here’s a little proofreading tip for removing typos from short documents and essays.
First proofread the document in the normal way and make all corrections.
Then proofread it backwards word by word and see whether you have missed anything. Often backward reading reveals more errors because you see only individual words and don’t read the piece for sense. When we read normally we often are absorbed by the meaning of what we read and don’t see the words as separate entities.
Please don’t try this on a book. Your brain will fry. And we need to keep good proofreaders sane!
