Here’s a little tip to help you to spot all the errors in a short document, perhaps a brochure, an essay or a website.

proofreading tipWhen you have proofread the piece in the normal way, that is from the beginning to the end, try the reverse! Proofread from the end to the beginning. Why? Because when you read backwards each word is isolated out of context and you see only one word at a time. Often you will spot more than you did the first time round. Learning to proofread is not as straightforward as you thought!

Don’t try this with a full length novel!

About the Author:

Richard is a director of Chapterhouse. His lifelong love of books led him from the law to publishing. His favourite animal is the rhinoceros and his favourite modern play is Jerusalem. Strangely, perhaps, he is fanatical about football and modern novels.
